Diego Rivera was a Mexican painter and muralist best known for his large-scale frescoes featuring political and social messages. Rivera's work often depicted scenes from Mexican history and culture, as well as the struggles of workers and peasants. He was also influenced by the Renaissance and Baroque styles, as well as the art of Ancient Egypt and Greece. Some of his most famous works include the frescoes in the National Palace in Mexico City, as well as murals in the Detroit Institute of Arts and Rockefeller Center in New York City. Rivera's art was a reflection of his communist beliefs and his desire to use art as a means of political and social change. He died in 1957 at the age of 70.
